Guide for
Patent Searches and Patent Applications
Level 2d
You have
answered "Yes" to the question
Does your
search subject involve, require or contain steps
to be taken?
(Examples - steps in a process of making something, or in a
method of using something, etc.)
If your search
subject is in the medical or computer fields, call
312.419.8055 or otherwise
contact the firm
for a cost estimate.
Otherwise:
2d.1
If your search subject is a process of making something, select the S-3 search.
2.d2
If your search subject is a method of doing something not computer related,
select the S-5 search.
If your search subject is not in any of the above categories, please request
assistance in selecting the search field
on-line. You must be able to either
define the search subject generically or provide a comparable item.
Generic example - the generic for a new golf club design would be "golf club" and a
category description of "for sports" would not be adequate.
Comparable example - a new device for cooking might be comparable to a toaster or a
frying pan but probably not equally comparable to both.
Again,
on-line inquiry
for assistance in selecting the search field.
