Guide for
Patent Searches and Patent Applications
Level 2b
You have
answered "Yes" to the question
Does your
search subject involve, require or contain electrical/electronic circuits/wiring?
(Examples -
circuits/wiring in toasters, or remote control units, or solenoids, or alarms, etc.)
If your search
subject is in the pharmaceutical or microbiological fields, call
312.419.8055 or otherwise
contact the firm
for a cost estimate.
Otherwise:
2b.1
If your search subject is a device that contains such circuits/wiring and its
operation depends on them, select the S-4 search.
2b.2
If your search subject is a simple device that is used with something that has
circuits/wiring but its operation does not depend on the circuits/wiring, select
the S-1 search.
2b.3
If your search subject is a method that uses a device which contains such
circuits/wiring, select the S-5 search.
If your search subject is not in any of the above categories, please request
assistance in selecting the search field
on-line. You must be able to either
define the search subject generically or provide a comparable item.
Generic example - the generic for a new golf club design would be "golf club" and a
category description of "for sports" would not be adequate.
Comparable example - a new device for cooking might be comparable to a toaster or a
frying pan but probably not equally comparable to both.
Again,
on-line inquiry
for assistance in selecting the search field.
